Swiss Teams Game Rescheduled

There has been a miscommunication between Mall Manager and Club Manager regarding NCBC having access to the hall all day on the date originally scheduled. They have a Charity Event scheduled that evening and must reconfigure the hall with different tables, etc.

Rather than shorten our Swiss Game we will have the game on Sunday, February 12 beginning at 10:00 am.

I believe there are currently six teams signed up. Please sign up at the club and contact your team members regarding the change.

Sharon Fogle Injured

Sharon Fogle, our Game Director on Tuesdays and Thursday nights had a car accident on the way home Tuesday night.  Several ribs were broken and she suffered significant bruising on her right forearm.  Her car was totaled.  The ribs will need 6-8 weeks to heal so she will be taking some time off.

Get well cards can be sent to her home address at:

125 Sawdust Lane
Brooksville, FL 34601

Meet Marion Ellingsen

Marion Ellingsen
Marion Ellingsen

We would like to tell you a little about one of our more distinguished but humble members of our club — Marion Ellingsen.

Marion was born at home in North Bergen New Jersey. She lived there most of her adolescent life and went to college at Jersey City State Teachers College earning a Bachelors of Science degree. She met her future husband, Arthur, at college. When asked how she met him, she said, “in bed”. She elaborated that she was sick and a local church group sent flowers and Artie was the deliverer. Artie asked her out for New Year’s so she became determined to get better, and did.

Marion taught as a substitute teacher for ten years in Park Ridge, New Jersey. She then taught full-time for an additional twenty years. She mainly taught the third grade and part of her innovative teaching method was to introduce the rudiments of bridge to her third graders. Her husband worked for GM for twenty years and then retired and opened a flower shop.

They had three children, twelve grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren. In explanation of the great number of great-grandchildren, she offered that one of her daughters had seven children.

She and Artie moved down here in 1991, and she lives at Timber Pines. Her hobbies used to be dancing and teaching bridge. She directed for a number of years on the fourth Friday, and taught bridge classes for years, and also gave private lessons. She has co-authored two books on bridge — “We Love the Majors” and “Bridge With Bells and Whistles”.

When asked for suggestions to make our club better, she offered that she was recently the victim of the “grandson scam”, and she believes that others in our club may have been exposed to it. She suggests that when a scam comes up for one of our members, the club let the membership know of the scam. When asked what she liked most about our club, she stated that she is so grateful for all the support and help that members and our club gave her in her recent illness.

We are so grateful to have this wonderful woman as a member.
