ACBL just notified us that NCBC contributed $680 to ACBL’s Charity fund between June and November. Since we give an equal amount to local charities that’s $1360 for six months, over $2700 in all for the year. Good job, everybody! It’s great to know that, while we earn extra points, we’re also helping people everywhere – and especially here in our local community where we support hospice, the food banks and other organizations.

Researchers at UCLA have shown that electical stimulation of a certain area of the brain improves short-term memory formation. For more information, see this link. If this ever come to fruition, the ACBL will undoubtedly ban it. Dang it -- I could use it during the bidding and play of the hand.

A special meeting of the full membership of NCBC was held on 2/3/12 to vote on new bylaws proposed by the Board. Annabelle Hills called the meeting to order at 12:-02 pm, then turned the meeting over to Jerry Lebo, Chairman of the Bylaws Committee. Jerry invited questions and comments from the floor.
After a brief question period, ballots were distributed, collected and tabulated. The proposed bylaws were approved by a margin of 64 to 14 – which included 32 proxy votes cast earlier in the week by players who were unable to attend the Friday meeting. The meeting was adjourned at 12:20.
The bylaws are now published on The Daily Recap, for logged in users only, under Games / Club Info, where you can also find a list of the most significant changes.

Several large websites are protesting two bills making their way though Congress, by showing their home page in black, or by becoming unavailable. These bills deserve our attention. The bills are unlikely to affect The Daily Recap or you directly, but their passage will affect many sites and services you use.
The Electronic Frontier Foundation has a summary of the bills' negative effects here: link. Of course, you can find many other explanations all over the web.
