On Sunday, November 6, I spent the day monitoring Adam Kaplan through a two session, 64-board match to qualify for the USBF World Junior Championships to be held in Tai Chang City, China (outside Shanghai) July 24 to August 4, 2012. For more information, go to the website " usbf.org."
The logical analysis of hands and determining an opponent’s shape and strength are the greatest challenges bridge players face. Adam’s ability in doing this rivals that of Jim Logan and Charlotte Kartsonis - two of the best I have ever seen at any level. The following hand illustrates that to the nth degree. In the qualifying phase, teams not only had to win two 32-board matches, but they had to try and acquire as many match points as they could. Winning simply was not enough, you had to clobber your opponent.

There is an increasing number of Apple and Android users of our site. For their machines to be useful for Results, it is necessary that you produce your reports for uploading in HTML format.
To do this, using ACBLscore's report function, select "HTML file" in the first little window that opens. (It allows for "Screen," "Printer," "Text file," and "HTML file.")
Then, when you upload to the site, select that file (ending in ".html") to upload. (A ".txt" file will not exist for that game.)
This is the same procedure most of you use when running a multi-section game because it produces a multi-section report in one step.

You probably know by now that we are sharing the new location with the landlord's catering business. Sadly, we have already gotten reports of bridge players helping themselves to the landlord's utensils and china and accidentally breaking things.
Please, please help us be good tenants. Don't go behind the wrought iron fencing and don't use any of the catering supplies. It's OK to rest belongings and snacks on the small tables near the entrance and on the bar to the right to the entrance but, if you do, please clean up after yourself. Don't leave spillage and stains for the landlord to deal with.
Thanks for the help.

Now that we've unpacked and found our way around at the new location, we'll be resuming refreshements on Monday. BUT...
Coffee service is still presenting a problem because there is no sink on site. For the next couple of weeks we'll be providing hot water only while we search for a better solution.
Enjoy!

October 31 was a special day. It was the Halloween Party, the first day at the new site, and Lee Hargrave's birthday. Here are some of the pictures I took.
