This match was played in 1981 and was one of my most memorable bridge events.  Cameron French, the author of the following story, was my student and, as you will read, a novice -- but with a lot of talent.

I wish I could report the number of people who played -- many thousand since every playing room seemed packed every hour of every day. 97,543.1 master points were awarded to 5,157 players.

Of those players, over 50 were NCBC-ers! Congratulations to all!
