Pencil Salvage Center

The pencil recovery effort got off to a good start Monday with over 40 pencils returned. Policewoman M. Dabbs and Deputy G. Panos appealed to the concerned crowd to search their domains for mistakenly taken pencils and return them this week.

Tuesday more pencils were received as Assistant Deputy D. Tillberry supervised the crusade.

Many pencils are still missing and with only three more days to recover them, we urge you to find those that may still be lurking in your cars, purses, pockets, desk drawers, etc.

Remember the person who turns in the most authentic NCBC pencils this week will receive a free game play. Deputy Panos and Policewoman Dabbs

At the left end of Towne Square Mall is a restaurant with an attached ballroom. We bridge players may find ourselves frequenting this mall a lot in the future, so I decided to pay a visit to see what we're in for.

I was surprised to find a full menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner . . . and a bakery! The food was typical of Greek restaurants -- mostly home-style fare with canned or overcooked vegetables. Otherwise, it was very tasty, and served quickly -- just like home. The wait-staff was friendly, courteous, and attentive.

The ambiance is that of a Wal-Mart -- spartan, with 25 foot ceilings -- but nevertheless, it has a "neighborhood" feel to it. Nothing is pretentious. There was quite a crowd there, on a late Friday afternoon, and most seemed like regulars, possibly from Timber Pines across the road.

Always make your lead face down.  The face down lead may be withdrawn only upon instruction of the Director after an irregularity. If you leave the bidding cards on the table until the face down lead is made, there will never be a question as to who is supposed to make the lead.  Another advantage of leaving the bidding cards on the table is there will never have to be a review of the bidding.
