Bob Mooney made Life Master at the Sun City Sectional when his team won the B strat of the Open Swiss. His teammates were Jerry Lebo, Michael Miller, and me. They won 5 of 7 matches, losing only to 2 A teams.

At the Sarasota Regional, Jerry Lebo, playing with Bob Mooney, earned about 10 gold MPs in the Open Swiss today. He needed about 6 to make Life Master. The team placed first in C, 3-4 in B, and 14 in A. Mooney now needs about 10 black points to make Life Master. The team played against Meckstroth and Rodwell in the final match, being 5-1 at the time. We came within a bid or two of beating them as they were playing with clients. In the last game of the last match, Pat Clark made an invitational splinter bid instead of a game-forcing splinter, and when Rodwell sacrificed at 5H, Michael Miller doubled instead of carrying on to a difficult 6S, which made at the other table, played by Meckstroth for a huge swing. Oh well, we all played as well as we could and Jerry deserves all the credit.

I would like to thank all the wonderful bridge players that have made my achieving Life Master possible. First and foremost, to my Aunt Mary, who 2 years ago encouraged me to join BBO so we could play bridge together on line. I had not played a hand of bridge in 35 years. Perhaps a month later while playing on BBO, Joan Waite saw a message I sent and initiated a dialog with me that ultimately inspired me to visit our local bridge club. As most or you know, that started a lovely partnership where Joannie became my teacher, mentor, and regular Thursday evening partner.
