Many of you have asked for the  'Sloppy Lasagna' recipe that was served at the club on Halloween, so I have added the recipe to the Daily-Recap's recipe section.  Click Here, or use the green menu bar under "Misc"

It is very simple to make.

At the left end of Towne Square Mall is a restaurant with an attached ballroom. We bridge players may find ourselves frequenting this mall a lot in the future, so I decided to pay a visit to see what we're in for.

I was surprised to find a full menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner . . . and a bakery! The food was typical of Greek restaurants -- mostly home-style fare with canned or overcooked vegetables. Otherwise, it was very tasty, and served quickly -- just like home. The wait-staff was friendly, courteous, and attentive.

The ambiance is that of a Wal-Mart -- spartan, with 25 foot ceilings -- but nevertheless, it has a "neighborhood" feel to it. Nothing is pretentious. There was quite a crowd there, on a late Friday afternoon, and most seemed like regulars, possibly from Timber Pines across the road.

Reserchers in Singapore have shown a prototype of an energy storage material that would revolutionize devices which use rechargable batteries, such as hybid cars and cell phones, or devices which could use rechargeable batteries but don't because of their high cost and inefficiency, such as wind turbines and solar panels. If you've always wanted a Kindle, Amazon's ebook reader, here's some good news. Amazon just annouced 5 new Kindles: 4 with "e-ink" displays and one with an LCD. The new low-end Kindle is now available for $79, a subsidized price for a unit which displays innocuous ads on the home screen. Unsubsidized versions of this model are $99. The device is very light weight, important for reading.

You need "wi-fi" for these models. If you don't have wi-fi at home, you'll probably want a "3G" model which uses the cell-phone network at Amazon's expense. It costs about $30 more.

Breast cancer screening has not played a direct part in the reductions of breast cancer mortality in recent years, says a new study published online in the British Medical Journal. It appears that the mammography regularly used and dreaded by many women does not significantly affect their mortality rate. Here is a link for more info.

A study of school children seems to show that physical punishment causes more immediate compliance with society's rules, but yields people with less understanding of the rules and less self-control in the future. Here's a link to a summary of the study: LINK.

The King House Asian Bistro was formerly a Chinese buffet, located in the strip mall at Cortez Boulevard and Mariner Boulevard, behind Walgreens and Carrabba's -- right in my own backyard, and I never knew it. We had been there several times when it was a buffet, and watched its quality slip until we no longer bothered.

It's now a superb sit-down restaurant, offering Japanese, Chinese, and Thai selections. Prices are moderate, the service is firendly and casual, and the atmosphere is acceptable. But don't go there for those reasons -- it's the food! We've only been there once, so we haven't tried very much of their menu, but based on what we had you won't be disappointed. It's surely the best restaturant of its kind in the area.
