This hand is from the archives of Richard Chesley. You are red and the opponents are white. In fourth seat, you hold: ♠-AKQxx, ♥-AKxx, ♦-void, ♣-Qxxx. Partner opens 2♥ (weak) and RHO overcalls 3♦. “It’s Your Call.” Jim’s analysis: unless partner is on a suicide mission, he/she must have 6 hearts to the Q and 4+ HCP somewhere else. We assume partner’s vulnerable open is in the 5-10 HCP range. If none of those points are in diamonds, partner could have as little as the king of clubs or any combination of the ace, king, and jack of clubs.Jim’s call is 4NT (1430 for hearts). Okay folks, partner shows one ace and you bid 6♥! With my luck, that ace is in diamonds and RHO cashes the ace and king of clubs! Thanks Richard.
