There must have been at least a half dozen director calls Friday for Opening lead out of turn. There are a couple of very good practices players should adopt which can prevent this from ever happening. The first is for all players to leave the bidding cards on the table until the lead is made. The second is to always make the opening lead face down. The "leader" should ask his partner, "Any questions?" Then, when all questions have been asked and answered, turn the card face up. ACBL does not require us to leave the bidding cards out but it really is a good practice. They do require us to lead "face down." Read Law 41, Commencement of Play.
