I received a call from a staff member at Serendipity House where Dorothy Bicket, who celebrated her 97th birthday with us last year, was staying.  They told me she would like to play bridge Friday, April 23rd.  I sent out an email to our players asking for a partner for Dorothy but was disappointed when, during the game, I noticed that Dorothy was not there.

Saturday morning, I called Serendipity House and told the staff member how sorry I was that I had not been able to get a partner for Friday, they had notified me at a very late date, but that if Dorothy wanted to play next Friday I would be happy to play with her.   The staff member said that would be wonderful as Dortohy was sitting right in front of her and was sure she could play Friday.  We determined that the only problem might be that Dorothy needed transportation to and from the game.

I knew that Betty Ost and Darryl Drew had arranged to bring Dorothy to games before so decided to get in touch with Betty to see whether it would be possible for her to bring Dorothy to the game.  My email went unanswered but Betty answered the phone when I called several hours later.  After hearing about the situation, Betty said they would probably be able to pick Dorothy up.  I explained to Betty that I needed to know for certain soon as  I had to cancel my playing date with Don Bowen, my regular Friday partner, and I wanted to give him plenty of time to fine another partner.  When Betty heard this she asked me to hold for a minute while she conferred with Darryl.  When she came back to the phone, she asked if it would be all right if they picked Dorothy up and if I would mind if Darryl played with Dorothy.  She explained that Darryl and Dorothy have a special bond.  This seemed like a wonderful idea.

Dorothy should be at the game next Friday playing with a favorite partner.  Thank you Betty.  Thank you Darryl.
