We will especially remember March 2009 for the union of the two local duplicate bridge clubs — thus the beginning of Nature Coast Bridge Club.  Immediately, the club took off running!   A distinguished board was elected, and an aggressive agenda was formulated.  Accomplishments that have been realized include:  blending the two clubs, accepting and embracing our new site, developing and implementing a strong educational program, offering more games for new players, hosting a successful sectional tournament, and holding Swiss games with special lunches on selected Sundays.   The Daily Recap continued to be a solid asset, always providing information and affording member communications.

Of special note is our games were regularly attended by bridge players from four counties:  Hernando, Pasco, Citrus and Pinellas.   We come in all ages, and we’re especially proud of our youngest, Adam Kaplan, 13, and our most senior, Nora Watson, 96 and Dorothy Bicket, 97.  In August, we ardently followed Adam’s journey to the World Bridge Federation Youth Congress in Istanbul, Turkey, and we celebrated his team’s bronze medal.  Here at home, we were always happy to see the smiling faces of Dorothy and Nora at our games.

We were saddened by the death of three of our beloved members:  Roscoe Alexander, Gary Martin, and Mary Knott.   We cherish our special memories of each of them.

Charity continued to be a priority, with the club contributing about $1900 to local charities including Hernando Pasco Hospice, Nativity Lutheran Church Feeding Hernando and The Dawn Center.

About 35 players became new ACBL members.  Mary Ann Dufresne’s time and efforts with new players certainly attributed to the large enrollment.  We thank Mary Ann for the guidance she provided in lessons and games for newcomers.  We congratulate the new members and wish them the best in their future bridge activities.

Many of our members reached milestones on their ACBL treks.  Every step in this journey is special.  We congratulate each of you!  In the following list, players who reached more than one milestone are shown in the higher/highest level.  The list may be incomplete; please let Millie know of omissions or errors.
