Over a hundred people jammed into the funeral chapel to pay their final respects to our friend and fellow bridge player, Janet Moses, who died a week ago today after a long struggle with several different cancers.  She was nearly 82.

From the several speakers, we learned of some of her pre-Florida life, and what a life it was.  Over and over, it was stressed that she was a free spirit who lived life to the fullest and was an inspiration to her friends, not to mention her children, grandchild, and great grandchild.  Before retiring to Florida, where we met her, she had already lived a full and successful life, holding several academic degrees, serving on several governing boards, raising her kids, and working as a psychiatric nurse.

Her daughter, Alison, and her son, Stephen, were eloquent in their eulogizing.  Stephen's wife, Terry, wowed the mourners with her voice, both singing and speaking of her mother-in-law.  Mary Ann duFresne spoke of Janet's mentoring her, and many other new players, and came up with the catch-phrase of Janet sitting North, where she could keep score!

Jim Logan spoke as well, and imagined Janet (sitting North) playing bridge in heaven, with Roscoe Alexander, who didn't like keeping score, sitting South.  I have scanned his remarks:

"STRENGTH, FRIENDLINESS, APPRECIATION
I spent this weekend thinking about the impact Janet had on me as an individual and in the whole bridge community.

My personal reflections of Janet lead me to three distinct areas, but when I thought of them, it was like the Holy Trinity; 3 in 1.

FIRST, FRIENDLINESS
Janet was friendly to everyone, never uttering a disparaging word. She was a perfect hostess whenever you arrived at her table. There was one time when one of our notoriously slow players was doing some long arduous thinking and Janet patiently said, "Please play a card." Everyone in the area gave a little chuckle.

SECONDLY, APPRECIATION
Janet was above and beyond the most appreciative person we have had the honor of knowing. She would thank you with such heartfelt sincerity. We all should carry on Janet's legacy by saying "thank you" when someone does us a favor.

THIRDLY, STRENGTH
There can be no better advocate for dealing with illness and pain than Janet. She never complained, kept that beautiful smile right up to the end. I learned more from Janet's coping with life's struggles than in all my previous 70 years.

In summation Janet is guaranteed immortality with the gifts she has left us. I hope her family which Janet cherished, can see the impact she has also made on our bridge player lives.

Now that she's in Heaven, I bet her first bridge game will be with Roscoe Alexander, sitting North of course. I hope Roscoe lets Janet do some of the talking."

Thanks, Pat, for an excellent report. The service at Brewer Funeral Home and the Reception at Regency Oaks were so fitting that one could sense Janet's approval and spirit with us.
