Mary Ann and I arrived in Daytona Beach around 5:30 and checked into our room. We were both tired after a busy morning and the trip there. Dan Tillberry had made reservations for us at the Americano Hotel. We were to have a two bedroom, two bathroom condo with kitchen. We got to the room and there was one bathroom, two kitchens, a living room, one bedroom and two closets. We tried to call downstairs and none of the phones were working. My back hurt so Mary Ann went down to the desk to sort it out.

While she was gone I tried to figure out how I would sleep on a pull out in the living room with the uncomfortable bars under the mattress and decided to check out things in case we were stuck in this room. I decided to look in the closet that was behind the louver doors and to my surprise there was a bedroom. I went down to the other end of the living room and surprise — there was a second bathroom. I went back into the bedroom, laughing to myself, and saw a phone with a blinking light that was obviously working.

At the same time Mary Ann arrived back in the room. I told her about my finds and she also laughed. I asked her what the desk clerk said and she replied that he just gave her a blank look and said there were two bedrooms, two bathrooms and the phones worked. When we went downstairs we told him that we had found the bedroom and the bathroom and he gave us a strange look and smiled.

Later, I tried to come back in to the hotel and the code did not work so he had to buzz me in and I repeated the code that was correct but I forgot the # sign. I told him that we really were normal, fairly intelligent people and once again he just smiled — after all we lost a bedroom, a bathroom and could not figure out how to get in the hotel. Sorry Dan, they might not take any more reservations from you.

Perhaps NCBC should offer a Lodging 101 course that would help its future tournament travelers. Subjects to consider:
how to tell your driver's license from your room entrance card (sorry, John)
how to find missing rooms (Mary Ann and Sue)
how to use telephones (Mary Ann, Sue and plenty others)
how to find the right lodge (Lois F.)
how to park your car and later get out of the parking space (me)

Great! We have a new feature - "The Sue Sagas". I am now off the hook!
Honestly Sue, it could have happened to anyone. (Oh, yeah???)
