When I travel to the Daytona Regional, I always stay at the old Super 8 Motel. On the beach, blocks from the playing site, reasonable rates. This year, after the senior's game on Tuesday, I got back just after 6:00 PM. The courtyard was dark, and I mean DARK ! I whipped out my wallet and tried my key, every which way, with no luck. I cautiously made my way up to the office, which was in lock down (every night at 6 o'clock I later found out), pounded on the door, and was directed from inside to a bank-type drive up window about 10 feet to the left. I threw my key onto the tray, and exclaimed in an agitated voice "This damn thing doesn't work!" From inside came the reply, "Sir, that's your driver's license."

Sir, that's your driver's license.

So, cautiously returning to my room (it was quite dark everywhere) the courtyard lights suddenly came on. I figured that the switch was on a timer, and the motel had not adjusted for the end of daylight saving time. The lights came on.  That is, on three of four walls, not my wall.  I entered my room with a real door-key (it was still quite dark) and called the office. "I wish to report a malfunction in your lighting. The outside door lights along my wall are not working". The reply, " Sir, your wall faces the ocean, and by state law, those lights must be off because the turtles will get confused". At this point, I decided to end all conversations with the lady in the office. I wasn't liking her answers. I went out for a nice dinner after a nicer martini.

The next morning, I was relieved to see bright daylight. I stopped by the office, no longer in lock-down, and was advised: (a) the light switch would be adjusted and (b) that turtle season was over and lights on my wall would be restored.  Neither (a) nor (b) occurred during the rest of my stay, despite morning promises every day. Well, as I said, the price was right. I sure don't need to face the ocean either. In that courtyard layout, it is possible to get a room where your  parked car lights can illuminate the door to your room.

I got it figgured.
