A fter three months in the new facility, Annabelle Hills reported an increase in game attendance to the Board. Due in no small measure to the 299'ers game being held by Mary Ann duFresne, the total players is up some 14% for the April to June quarter. But even without the newcomer game, attendance is up over 7% in that period. In addition, the Lessons being presented by Carol Hargraves' Education Committee, appear poised to increase attendance even more. At the start of classes, 32 students were enrolled. Some of these are already playing with us, and some will not choose to play any more, but even so, a few new people can be expected. Your Board had hoped that this would happen after the two former clubs merged. The reduced duplication of assets and the convenience of the new location, should result in even better results in the future. The above results were for the second calendar quarter. For the entire year, attendance is up by 3.7%, and for the first quarter attendance was up 2%. (The clubs operated separately during the first quarter, although the Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday games operated in the new site for much of March.) The Monday and Friday games continue to be much larger that the others. Since this is your club, you should know that this is not necessarily a good thing, especially in the winter. You who play only on Mondays and Fridays really should consider switching to another day. It puts a lot less stress on everything -- the parking, the playing space, the equipment, the directors, and so forth. If everybody only played on Mondays and Fridays, we'd need a larger facility for less time -- not an economical situation. So if you and your partner can switch to another day, please consider it. The most economical arrangement would be when all the games are the same size. Similarly, some of the best directors wish only to direct on the good days -- "good" may mean large or may mean small to different directors. This is not right, and should be discouraged.
