I was reflecting on my lifestyle and the factors that influence the happiness and pleasures of my twilight years. Many people have universal common factors such as family and friends. I am blessed with a wonderful wife, children, and grandchildren that bring immense pleasure. My faith in God helps me through the ups and downs of everyday family life.

Then I started to think about my friends, and I came to the stark realization that "THE GAME" had a tremendous effect on  me, and thus it had to affect the social circle we are all enmeshed by "THE GAME" here in Spring Hill.(and throughout the world!!

One of my favorite movies was the 1946 classic, Frank Capra's epic "It's a Wonderful Life" starring James Stewart and Donna Reed.  The main theme showed what Bedford Falls would evolve to if George Bailey (Jimmy Stewart) had committed suicide. Quite a drastic change!!

It made me reflect, what if there was no game of bridge?? What would our lives be like??

Which leads to the conclusion. There is nothing bigger than "THE GAME" than the game itself.

I enjoyed your "The Game" comments, Jim, and I too am enriched by the friends I have met among our bridge group. The times we visit at bridge, and at other times we meet elsewhere, have made Spring Hill one of the best places my wife and I have ever lived. I am not too pleased with your Red Sox, having swept the Tigers in Detroit this past few days.

Good thoughts, Jim. Rich and I have talked many times about how much "the game" means to us, and how many friends we have made playing "the game." These friends are our opponents at times--but only for a short time, which is insignificant when we think of all the pleasures we derive from playing "the game"--not only at Nature Coast Club, but with a little work, we've been able to find games in many of the places we've visited in our travels.

Hey, Jim, I never realized what a deep thinker your are. What's a Math teacher doing writing a philosophical piece like this. You go!

Jim Logan is after my job - I thought I was the poet laureate of the NCBC. What a great piece, Jim. I too have been blessed by playing the "game." Special to me has been watching the development of Adam Kaplan, both as a bridge player and a human being. The last 10 years have been a blast, playing bridge and making many new friends. Life is good!
