We were to take down our card tables and chairs Thursday night in preparation for a group of line dancers who would be using our space on Friday. Management at SCC had offered us use of a dolly to move chairs. The dolly was kept in a locked storage room at the end of the main room. We were cautioned to be sure anything of value was locked in this room as there have been instances of things coming up missing.

Lois' key was used to unlock the door to get to the dolly. Everyone helped put things away and left leaving Pat and me to dismantle the director's table and secure the building. When I tried to lock the storage room door with my key, it wouldn't turn the bolt. We then tried Pat's key with no success. What to do? We had promised SCC representatives we would be good stewards of their belongings and it looked like we were going to have to leave their most valuable items unsecured. Oh well, we had no choice. We finished securing the building and left the premises.

I went quickly to sleep but awoke at 3:15AM and began worrying about the unlocked storage room door. I remembered I had four more keys to the door and maybe one of them would work. I decided I would arise early in the morning and go to the club. After another 30 minutes of thinking about the situation, I thought "as long as I couldn't sleep anyway, why not just get up, go to the club, and try to lock the door". I made myself a cup of coffee and off I went.
The drive was wonderful, there wasn't another car on the road and all the stop lights stayed green, but he darkness created a somewhat confusing atmosphere. I stopped at the the red light to make the turn onto Berkley Manor Rd. As I sipped my coffee I observed a police car in the northbound lane, also waiting for the light. My arrow turned green so I swung into Berkley Manor Rd. "What't this? Where's the quick right? Oh, my God, I'm in the wrong lane. Oh well, nothing to do except keep going until the median disappears. Silly cop, he didn't even follow me. That right turn must take me to the SCC. I'll try that". Well, it probably would have except I made some more wrong turns. "Threre's 19. I'll just go until I get to it and go back to Berkley Manor Rd. Whew, SCC at last."
I parked in front of the building, locked my car, unlocked the front door, locked it behind me, and proceeded to try the keys in the lock. 2 worked and 2 didn't. "Hooray! Mission accomplished."
The folks at the SCC will never know we left their door unlocked. Or will they? The place is monitored by surveillance cameras. Do you suppose they are watching their tapes and wondering why I was sneaking around the premises at 4:00AM? Again, oh well. People tell me I look best in bright colors but I suppose I could manage black and white stripes for a short while.
